Facial Massage: Ease Pain Sooner
Article by Darrel White
I wake up so early in the morning, before my husband and children, I start the coffee and wonder, whya do my friends/peers look like. I see that my face has aged. When did this happen to me I don’t see a young lady any more, I see an (almost) 40 yr old woman. I remember when my mother wasw When I wake up in the morning I look in the mirror. I see my face! Aagh, what happened to me, where is my young face? Through my years it has disappeared. I need a refreshing look. My high school reunion is coming up and my skin is tight and dry. Sure, I have aged and have three little girls. But, who knows that? I think I need a massage. Not one to make me feel better, but one to make me look better. I need a facial massage.
Massage is the manipulation of superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue. This is done to enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being. If you are looking to modern medicine to cure your issues, maybe you are looking in the wrong place. The art of massage dates way back, back to over 3000 years. It has been documented by the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians. They all applied forms of massage for many ailments. Hippocrates even wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. Facial massage is recorded far back in other cultures, but the Western version is a recent twentieth century innovation. Many European practitioners have come to the US recently to teach others.
So, do you think this can benefit you? Does your skin need more moisture? I know mine does. When the face is massaged, the body’s circulation is increased and this reverses signs of aging. Skin tone and texture will improve, as well as redness, fine lines and wrinkles being reduced. Do you have blemishes? These can be reduced, as can blemishes with a facial massage.
Facial rejuvenation is also known as Indian facial massage. This is better and less invasive than a surgical face lift. When stress is relieved (as it can be with a massage) your face will look less stressed and more relaxed, resulting in a younger look that shows on our faces.
Do you think this is the limit of a facial massage? No, there are other benefits. Do you notice how your child’s skin glows? It is so soft and beautiful, it is blemish free and not in the least bit puffy. Healthy skin is an indication of a healthy body and mind. Collagen production is increased, and this helps to diminish wrinkles. It also tightens the flesh under the chin, thereby eliminating a double chin, which, incidentally, occurs in slim as well as fat people.
I know that in my experience as a mother, the children are always the first to have lotion on the faces at night, the first to have sun-screen in the sun. I make sure that they wear hats, I watch their faces for redness, and if too red, I bring them in from the sun. Me, I am the last, often the one not to, have sun screen applied. No-one watches for my skin, but myself. My face, with age needs more protection. Since I have three girls to watch over, it is comforting for me to know that dryness and over-exposure can be helped by a facial massage. While it won’t relieve all that ails my face, I think I can still go out in company of people my own age, and not feel aged due to a facial massage. I know I will not be looking the worst in the group!

The ancient art of massage has been used for many centuries throughout ancient civilizations. Records have been found that date to ancient China. There is documentation that that most ancient civilizations have used of massage. Chinese records date back to 3000 years. The ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians, as well as the Japanese, Romans and Egyptians applied different forms of massage as different problems. Even Hippocrates has been known to have written papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. While modern medicine has come a long way, we have learned much from our ancient ancestors, and here in the US, we have adopted and even come up with new forms of massage. At my first body massage, I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only my mind and body, but also my skin felt invigorated!
There are many benefits to full-body massage. It promotes improved sleep and relaxation, eases stiff joints, aids circulation and digestion. The skin, as well as many internal organs can benefit from it. The warmth of the hands moving over the subject of the massage will warm and relax the skin. A full body massage technique involves a sequence of movements working superficially and deeper into the tissue layers.
Specialized equipment is use required for any sort of a massage. A typical commercial table designed for massage has a heavily padded surface which is easy to clean. There is a horseshoe-shaped head support so the recipient can breathe with ease while lying face down. These tables can be easily cleaned and remain hygienic. Pillows and mats are also used to keep people in the most appropriate position.
As well as using tables, chairs are often used. These, like the tables can be either stationary or portable. Chair massages are popular, as massage chairs are easily portable and can be taken to a mall, office or other public places. The client is not required to take off his/her clothes (as this is in public!) in order to sit in a chair for massage. Massage tables are not appropriate for public locations as these are heavy to carry, and generally the client will disrobe and be covered with towels.
A complete body massage is very personal to many people, and generally entails arms, back, begs, front and back and shoulders being massaged. As all of us have different ailments we all need a tailored massage to suit our own needs. We need to be completely comfortable with our massage therapist, as we are generally completely nude, with towels covering for modesty. Each part that is being massaged will be exposed, while the rest is still covered.
A full body massage is great to help people who want to unwind and relax! It is very relaxing. Some of these include Swedish, holistic, deep tissue, and aromatherapy. These massages will leave you full of life, invigorated! In the United States there are about 90,000 massage therapists. Most states in the United States require a license to practice massage therapy. If a state does not have any massage laws, then the national certification in massage therapy is not required and a practitioner need not apply for a license with the state. Training programs in the US are typically 500-1000 hours in length, and can award a certificate, diploma, or degree depending on the particular school. Incidentally, in South Korea only the blind and visually impaired are allowed to practice massage therapy!

Massage Therapy For Ease Your Tension And Pain
Massage therapy manipulates the soft tissues of the body to normalize the tissue. Besides helping you relax, soothing sore muscles, reducing some kinds of swelling, and improving general well-being, massage therapy of one sort or another may also help with hypertension, burns, chronic pain (including from arthritis, backaches, and migraines), rashes and other skin conditions, addictions, depression, stress and labour pain and asthma. It can also alleviate depression and boost self-esteem in people with eating disorders; improve growth and development in premature babies; reduce pain and water retention in women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS); raise blood sugar levels in kids with diabetes; and possibly even boost immune function in people with HIV or cancer.
Thus basically Massage therapy is used:
To reduce stress and pain
To aid recovery from medical or surgical procedures
To provide relaxation
To soothe tired and sore muscles
To increase circulation of blood and flow of lymph in the body
Massage if not done properly can however cause lot of damage. Hence massage is always to be done by a qualified therapist. A qualified therapist not only knows all about the human body, how it works, and what can go wrong with it, but also tells you when massage is inappropriate or dangerous. A specialist massage therapists is not only trained in rubbing you the right way and kneading out the kinks, but also has an understanding of the muscle and nerve complexities that make the body tick. If you may have a serious or chronic illness, never use massage without first consulting your Doctor. You should also generally avoid using massage on inflamed, burned, or otherwise injured areas. And because massage works by promoting blood flow, it can potentially spread certain problems throughout your body. You should almost always avoid massage therapy if you have an infection, cancer, swelling (edema), or a blood clot (except under the supervision of a highly skilled physician). People with high blood pressure, an enlarged liver or spleen, or peptic ulcers should also avoid abdominal massages. And pregnant women should stick to well-trained, professional massage therapists who are familiar with pregnancy massage.
There are many different specialized massage techniques commonly used. These include:
Swedish massage
Rolfing
Heller work
Shiatsu Combinations of these techniques are also used.
Massage therapists move the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and the membrane, called fascia that surrounds the muscles. This is done to promote the flow of blood and lymph. It also serves to relieve tension, stimulate nerves, and keep the muscles elastic and easy to move. Massage also moves the blood and increases its oxygen capacity. Massage can both soothe and stimulate the nervous system. Different techniques are chosen to achieve different effects. Massage can also speed recovery from the fatigue that often follows exercise. This is why many athletes use massage as part of their training plan. Oils are commonly used to make the therapists hands move more easily across the skin. The massage is usually done on a padded massage table. The person’s body is covered with a sheet or a blanket. Only the part that is actively being worked on is exposed at any given time. The person needs to take off only those clothes he or she feels comfortable removing. However this also depends on the kind of massage a person is doing. For example, shiatsu massage can be done through the patient’s clothing. Swedish massage, one of the most common, involves hands directly on skin, usually with a lubricant so the body’s soft tissue can be manipulated.
Another type of massage you can ask about is trigger-point therapy, in which the massage therapist works with specific points on the body that are said to restrict a person’s energy levels. When visiting a massage therapist, you should feel free to ask him or her what massage techniques they use. A massage will generally last for one hour. Massage therapists may combine different techniques. Any type of massage therapy will include pressing, stroking, or kneading the muscles of the body. Although some massage strokes may be somewhat uncomfortable, a person having a massage should generally feel good. If pain or discomfort persists, the massage can be stopped.
Follow the following tips to make the best of a massage:
Comfort is the key word. Be sure that you feel comfortable with your therapist. You should feel free and relaxed when the therapist is massaging you.
Let the therapist know what you want. If your main goal is to relax, or is it to relieve a specific injury or pain, tell that to him and ask him for advice as to which type of massage will be best. How heavy or light should the pressure be?
Ask the therapist to avoid sensitive areas. There is no need to be shy or embarrassed about it.
Take off only the clothes you feel comfortable taking off. Massage therapists must respect your boundaries, such if you want to wear underwear during a massage
Prepare to relax. Take a nice shower and relax yourself. Please avoid eating a heavy meal right before a massage.
Speak up if something hurts or tickles. Sometimes a massage can cause temporary discomfort, especially if it involves working on sore, damaged, or tense areas. You may even feel sore in these areas for a day or two after a massage. So it is advisable to stop massage immediately and tell this to the therapist.
Speak up if you’re sensitive to the aroma of the oil or just can’t stand the music in the

A typical commercial massage table has an easily cleaned, heavily padded surface, and a horseshoe-shaped head support that allows the client to breathe easily while lying face down and can be stationary or portable. Ergonomic chairs serve a similar function as a massage table. Chairs may be either stationary or portable models. Massage chairs are easier for the practitioner to transport than massage tables, and clients do not need to disrobe to receive a chair massage. Due to these two factors, chair massage is often performed in settings such as corporate offices, outdoor festivals, shopping malls, and other public locations.
